Psalm 39: 4-7
4
"Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.Remind me that my days are numbered-
how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath."
6 We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.
7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.
Reading over this passgage reminds me of a totally lame movie quote, but a totally relevant one. I'm sure everyone is familar with Jack Dawson's little speech in Titanic, "To make each day count."
So how on earth do I go about making this journey and today count? It is easy to think that nine months is plenty of time to act, but in actuality it is just a wink. I do not want to move as just a shadow, nor do I want to rush into moments consumed by selfishness. This is fight to find the medium - a balance only God can bring. I need to focus my attention on doing the Lord's will and continually reminding myself not to neglect the moments he has blessed me with. How can I make this happen? I need to put my hope in the Lord. These days are his breaths, not mine.
Father,
Take all of the undisciplined areas in my life and fine tune them
so that I may play a sweet song for you. Even if if only lasts for
a second in your time, for if all disciples take part in this music
then you will hear the most beautiful composition
- one that is completely inspired by your goodness.
